Our Town

Compare and contrast Maycomb and its ways and people with Cascade (Bernard/Western Dubuque County area). How is our Cascade-area culture similar, yet different, from Maycomb?

Comments

  1. Maycomb and Cascade are similar to each other because they are both small towns where everyone knows everyone. One way that they are different is because Cascade is in the north and Maycomb is in the south meaning the history of each place is different. -A.L

Maycomb is very similar to Cascade and Bernard in different ways. Maycomb is a small town just like the towns that we live in. There are still the first old buildings that started the town like on main street in Cascade and the town center in Maycomb. In all three of these towns there are the well known family names that everybody has heard about or has known. There is also the similarity of gossip and town news about people and families. If something happens within a family everyone in town knows about it within days. Just like in Maycomb, we have the actual town and then from there houses are spread out and further apart with farm land and fields in between. These things are ways that Maycomb and our towns are alike.

  3. Maycomb and Cascade are very similar but also very different. First Maycomb and Cascade are similar because everyone knows everyone in both cities, they both also have the mentality of your business is also my business. Second Maycomb is very different form Cascade because of the location and the time period, because Cascade is located in the north and Maycomb is in the south they have different views like about slavery and manners. The time period also has a role to play because of what was going on at that time like the Jim Crow laws.

  4. Maycomb is similar to the Cascade/Bernard area because it's a one main street town, and it's a town were everyone knows everyone. Cascade is the same way because Cascade has one main street and all the other streets aren't used a ton. In Maycomb there is a lot of town gossip and that is what normally goes on in Cascade because you can never have any privacy in this town. Another thing these towns have i common is that everybody knows the well-known families, and also no matter who you are if you have a certain last name you are pegged with a certain reputation. These main 3 reasons are why the 3 towns are alike.

Maycomb and Cascade are similar in many ways. They are similar because both are very small and most people know everyone and what is going on. They also like to gossip and most times small towns gossip a lot and try to find anything and everything about every one. Finally there there really is only one main street to get place.

  6. Cascade and Maycomb share many similarities and differences between each other. Starting off both are similar in that they are both very small towns were everyone knows everyone. We also are a close town where people help out each other, and try to care for each other. Another similarity is the surroundings where both Cascade and Maycomb are surrounded by farm fields. They are different whereas the elementary allows the students to leave during lunch, and our school didn't let that happen. We also are more advanced when it comes to technology, and not having to abide by Jim Crow Laws. The time era that the book takes place in is what really makes our two towns different, due to the segregation.

  7. Maycomb is similar yet different from Cascade and Bernard because Maycomb is a very close and tight community. Maycomb is a tight community because everyone knows everyone just like in the small towns of Bernard and Cascade. Everyone in Cascade and Bernard know each other. They are different because Maycomb is diffrent from Cascade because Maycomb is down in the south and Cascade is in the north. People in the south and north have very different opinions on races and slavery.

  8. Maycomb seems to be very similar to Cascade in many ways. Maycomb is a small, quiet town just like Cascade. Maycomb has one main road, which is a lot like Cascade because we only have one main street and only one stoplight. Another way Maycomb is like Cascade because everyone knows everyone and everyone's business. When it comes to smaller towns, there tends to be gossip that gets around to everyone. This gossip goes around Maycomb, just like things go around Cascade. In Maycomb they have families that farm and have tons of farmland. Many families in Cascade have farms and have farming as a job. Cascade has many little neighborhoods and so does Maycomb. These two towns are very alike.

  9. Cascade and Maycomb are very similar in many ways. For example Cascade and Maycomb are your common small towns; we all gossip about everything and anything. We are also super close to each other and are very friendly to everyone, yet there is always that one family that is very far off from everyone else and just minds their own business. Cascade also has a main street with our local businesses that line the streets very much like Maycomb. Also in Cascade we all have had our neighborhood play groups that we were very close to kind of like Jem, Scout, and Dill. I think the most common similarity between the two towns are our religions but the biggest thing that stuck out to me was the whole last name thing. I think that stood out to me the most because in Cascade you only play sports or gain respect of others if you have a good last name so it is very similar to Maycomb. I could not really think of any differences other than the type of jobs that we have in Cascade compared to Maycomb and there is multiple religions in Maycomb but in Cascade there isn’t quite has much.
